Write a paragraph that talks about your company here. You can talk about your company's background, history, mission, vision, or philosophy. Anything that will introduce your brand's persona to your clients. This will help build a connection between you and them, that hopefully leads into a working relationship.
Halifax Historical Dance was started in 2024 by Anne & Richard Smithies.
Anne & Richard have been dancing Historical Dance since 2013 and have danced all periods from the 15th to the 19th century including Medieval, Elizabethan, Civil War, Baroque, Regency and Victorian. They have attended Summer Schools and Workshops with the Historical Dance Society and the Early Dance Circle as well as regularly attending Regency and Victorian Balls or Tudor Revels both in the UK and abroad.
Formerly members of the Arbeau Dancers, they have performed historical dance at Apsley House, Temple Newsam, Middleham, Lincoln and Kenilworth Castles, Fountains Abbey, Revieux Terrace and Rydale Museum. They are members of the Historical Dance Society and the Early Dance Circle.
Through these classes they now would like to share their love, enjoyment and passion for historical dance.

Costume
There are wide variety of costumed Regency Events and, for these you may consider hiring, buying or making your own costume.
For women, in the Regency period, it is important first to consider your under garments which consist of at least a shift and a corset. These under pinnings will give you the high busted empire line of the Regency period. Once you have these you can then go on to make or have made your dress. If you hire your costume, the costume itself may be boned to give you the correct shape.
This is a useful article which will give you more information on costume and hair of the Regency period.
“The Regency and Romantic Dressmaker” (available for pre-order) has patterns and step by step instructions for making your own costume.
For men, the basics of the costume are shirt, breeches, waist coat, coat, long white socks, white gloves and cravat. For dancing you can use soft jazz shoes but not boots.
Where to buy? Etsy is a good starting place and on Ebay you may find some second hand costume. There are also Costume groups on FaceBook such as Regency Costume. A costume which is well fitted can look really good and you may consider having it made. There are a number of dress makers who specialise in historical costume. eg. Prior Attire who also sells off the peg items in her online shop. TORM (The original Reenactors market) is a great place to look for, buy costume, or find wonderful costumiers who will make your costume.
